Before you leave prison
Often it's not an easy transition between prison and the community. There's a lot to think about, and you need to plan where you’ll live.
Think about what or who you need nearby, such as:
- health and support services
- public transport
- work opportunities
- your family or whānau.
The Department of Corrections provides housing and other support for offenders with complex needs to help ease the transition back into the community.
Prison Aid NZ is an organisation that provides a reintegration support service to prisoners and their whanau. They provide practical support.
Prisoners on parole
If you’re on parole, you’ll need to comply with your conditions.
You might be able to get a Work and Income grant or loan to help with paying bond/rent in advance.
